To clean a thermocouple:
- Turn off your furnace or appliance and disconnect the thermocouple from the gas valve.
- Gently use a fine-grit sandpaper or an emery cloth to remove any corrosion, soot, or debris from the thermocouple’s metal probe. Be careful not to damage the probe while cleaning.
- Once clean, reconnect the thermocouple and turn the furnace back on.
